  1. Thank you for your information. It is very helpful.
Is this the same set up we would use to record our services if we later edit them and put them on utube?… or should we use a different set up?

    Thank you !

  2. The answer is yes, for a single camera setup for live streaming like I show in this diagram, you could either just record directly on the camera on it’s SD card. Or OBS has the ability to both stream and record at the same time. If you go that route, be sure and watch my video on optimizing your settings in OBS, it will walk you through how to set the recording side up as well. https://youtu.be/yTt5IxFWaEM

  3. I have the canon vixia hf g40 and the elgato capture device but I have been up able to pick up the picture from the g40. I can see the picture when the camera is connected directly to a monitor but it does not give an output when connected to the capture device. The device works through obs when I use a DLSR camera but not with the video camera.

I would like to use this camera but I can’t seem to get it stream. Can you help?

  4. Hello Stacy, I’m not real familiar with the elgato device, but I’m wondering if it doesn’t support 1080p60 and that is what your camera is putting out on it’s HDMI. Try changing your camera’s HDMI output to 1080i in the menu.

  5. HDMI isn’t meant to go far. Depending on the resolution/frame rate you use and the quality of the cable, sometimes the signal will work a bit farther, but if you need to go long distances, convert the signal to SDI.
